Unlocking Clear Skin: How Lasers are Revolutionizing Acne Treatment

If you suffer from acne, you already know how painful it can be—both emotionally and physically. Acne and other skin conditions can be life altering for some people. Many become self-conscious as a result of skin issues, leading them to seek acne treatment solutions.

Some people believe that only teens suffer from acne, but this common myth has been debunked time and time again. Roughly 12% of adult males and over 25% of adult women (aged 40 and up) experience regular acne breakouts.

While it’s true that 85% of American teens (between ages 12-24) are likely to have at least minor cases of acne, it’s equally important to remember that acne is not limited to those in the height of their youth. We always recommend people seeking acne treatment to speak with a specialist who deals with skin conditions, as they will be able to properly advise you on the best course of action. In this article, we’ll explore several types of laser acne treatment so you can see what your options are.

Aerolase

The Aerolase neo-laser was the first laser that specifically treated acne. Its inventors came up with 650-microsecond technology that made acne laser treatment safe for all skin tones. This form of laser acne treatment helps in the following ways:

  • Reduces inflammation associated with acne
  • Improves early scarring
  • Reduces redness that is frequently associated with acne
  • Destroys C. acnes bacteria that may lead to acne
  • Heats and shrinks sebaceous glands, leading to a lower sebum output

It’s recommended to have a total of four to six Aerolase treatments, typically scheduled two to four weeks apart. At our clinic, we combine laser treatments with others, such as chemical peels and deep pore treatments to promote faster clearing. This helps to significantly diminish post-inflammatory erythema, pigmentation, and inflammation. We see amazing results in treating rosacea acne with Aerolase as well. Having worked with this laser for six years, we’ve worked out the best settings and protocols to use for skin conditions such as acne, post-inflammatory pigmentation, and acne rosacea.

AviClear

AviClear is the first FDA-cleared energy device used for treating severe, moderate, and mild acne suppressing sebaceous glands. In particular, it targets hemoglobin in blood vessels of oil glands thus “shutting off” the delivery of androgens to them.

If you are acne-prone, the receptors of your oil glands are extremely sensitive to the androgens in your bloodstream. This hypersensitivity leads to increased oil production. After blocking this, oil glands stop producing oil in large quantities. No excessive oil in pores means no new congestions will be formed. It works very similarly to Isotretinoin (aka Accutane). However, there is one great advantage, which is the absence of any harmful side-effects such as severe dryness that is commonly associated with Accutane treatments.

  • Number of treatments needed: 3
  • Frequency of treatment: every month
  • Pain level: 4-6*
  • Side effects: no significant side effects
  • Price: $$

Accure

With comparable technology to AviClear, Accure is a newcomer to the acne laser treatment scene. Accure also works by targeting overactive oil glands with a light-based laser to reduce acne overall. Both the pain level involved and downtime are minimal. This procedure works by starting with a topical anesthetic applied to the skin. Then, a handheld device is used to apply light-based energy to the dermal layers.

Accure can be used to treat severe, moderate, and/or mild acne. Side effects, although rare and minimal, may include dryness, swelling, and/or redness. Looking for Acne Treatment in the New York Area? My daughter was treated for acne at AcneClinicNYC, and I always wanted to try PRP for anti-aging (I’ve read a lot about it being the most gentle way of rejuvenation). Oh my gosh, I fell in love with this treatment. I do four sessions a year now and plan to stick with it. Every treatment feels like a breath of fresh air, and I can see how thankful my skin is: bright, tight, and lifted!

I came in for a scars consultation, and Alexandra told me I didn't need aggressive treatments like lasers because my scarring wasn’t severe or old. She recommended PRP or microneedling with exosomes, which sounded best for my situation. I ended up choosing PRP, and it worked well for my scars. My pores are now smaller and tighter.

After successfully treating my acne with AcneClinicNYC, I was planning to address my hair issues at another clinic. However, my esthetician offered their PRP hair treatment (done on the scalp), and it turned out to be half the price of the place I was considering. I love my results. Thank you for transforming both my skin and hair!

I tried every product made for acne with no results. Once on their treatments and products my acne cleared up. I learned so much about my acne and my skin. Their home regimen are entirely personalized!
